uKit offers a streamlined website builder that makes it easy to get online with just a few clicks and a little customization in the intuitive drag & drop interface.
uKit is a very intuitive and easy to use website builder. The fast registration places right inside the development sandbox where you choose your custom URL (not domain registration, which can be purchased later). After picking a native URL you can choose from over 250 themes categorized by industry and topical relevance.
The simple drag and drop interface makes design enjoyable and there’s no HTML experience required. You can add modules and panels easily based on theme functionality and then add in whatever page content you desire. A full website can be online in minutes.
I found the interface to be enjoyable and it was easy to find everything I needed with hover-tags over every link, tab and icon to help direct me through the build process.
The basic plan as part of a free trial gives you simple functionality for getting a website live, all accessible from a dashboard that lets you select which site to customize or manage your account details.
From within the builder you have access to over 250 themes as well as a variety of content blocks and widgets. Native widgets include buttons, icons, galleries or single images quotes, social plugins and standard text widgets.
There’s also a design tab that lets you quickly customize beyond the set scheme and background of your chosen template. Once you’ve adjusted your content to your liking, every site you create with uKit has a one-click publish to get you online.
Upgrading to premium gets you additional features including: access to analytics, ecommerce integration with Ecwid, SEO widgets, a mobile site design, a custom domain name and thematic specialized widgets.
Pricing couldn’t be simpler. The upgrade to premium is just $5/month for added features and more functionality. If you pay annually the cost is reduced to just $4/month giving you the equivalent of 3 months free.
If you’re struggling with the creative aspect of putting a site together or you just don’t have time you can spend $50 for a fully customized website provided by the creative development team at uKit. That’s not just a basic theme applied either, they will tailor the design specifically to your business needs. That’s a great deal for $50.
There are no premium templates with uKit. The full spectrum of 200+ templates is all included in the monthly rate and accessible during the initial free trial so you can get a full view of what is available.
Templates are categorized by industry as well as topic of interest- mostly pertaining to the most popular thematic categories for website design including photography, sports, travel, real estate, etc.
At any time you can change your design template, even after you’ve started customizing your site. The templates are not just a mashup of cookie-cutter design with images swapped out. Each template is a unique design fitting for the category or industry.
You won’t find any native ecommerce functionality with the trial version but when you upgrade to premium you’ll get access to the Ecwid online store integration. This is a reliable and well respected ecommerce platform often used in content management systems like WordPress. If you want to sell products online the $4 per month fee is a fantastic rate given other ecommerce platforms can cost as much as $30 per month.
Don’t worry about functionality – Ecwid is extremely easy to use and you don’t need to know any code to get your products online. Integration is a snap and you can work with available support teams if you need help. Also, there’s the $50 design fee to have the uKit crew setup your entire ecommerce site for you.
I was impressed with the ease of use and functionality of uKit. The process was fairly streamlined and I never found myself frustrated with any of the features during the trial phase. If you’re strapped for time or limited in technical knowledge then uKit is a great choice for getting a beautiful website online fast, and cheaply.
